The Duke University Pediatric Heart Center APP Fellowship Program provides an educational environment for Certified Physician Assistants (PA) and Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NP) in which the fellow is trained to the highest level of proficiency, critical thinking, and ability while caring for pediatric cardiac and critical care patients.

About the Training

Pediatric Heart Center APP Fellowship

Fellows will be trained on various platforms that support the care of children affected by heart disease. The fellowship supports an advanced didactic education and a focus on clinical care experiences throughout a patient’s stay. A large bulk of experiences will be centralized in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) where fellows will learn from internationally recognized faculty.

Fellows will be responsible for:

  • assessment, diagnosis, management, and interpretation of studies
  • selection of interventions
  • performing procedures
  • evaluation of patients as they progress towards the goal of being an autonomous provider
