The Duke Department of Pediatrics was recently awarded a Child Health Research Career Development Award (CHRCDA) from the National Institutes of Health, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), entitled Duke Center for Advancement of Child Health (CAtCH).

On June 29, Duke University announced that all University faculty and staff are expected to present proof of vaccination by September 1, 2021, or receive a religious or medical exemption. 

Children and adolescents who had mild to asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 were found to have robust antibody responses up to four months after infection, according to a study of 69 children tested at Duke Health.

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics for the month of June 2021.

Narayanan Venkatasubramani, MD, MBBS, MRCPCH, is a pediatric gastroenterologist whose fascination with the resilience of children in overcoming their medical conditions drew him to a career in medicine.

Dr. Sudan has been saving lives for 25 years as a transplant surgeon, 13 of those at Duke leading the Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery. 

Kaveh Ardalan, MD, MS, assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Rheumatology, was recently awarded the 2021 Rheumatology Research Foundation Investigator Award for his project entitled, Psychological Stress and Cardiovascular Health in Juvenile Lupus and Dermatomyositis.

Dr. Misuraca is the director of research development for the Department of Pediatrics who uses her talents in scientific research and grant writing in an ever-evolving role centered on reviewing and editing individual grants for faculty, coordinating department-wide grant submissions, and overseeing a variety of research development and research training/education initiatives and programs.

The Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) recently announced that Neil Surana, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of pediatrics, immunology, and molecular genetics and microbiology in the Duke School of Medicine, will be the next director of the Duke Scholars in Molecular Medicine (DSMM) career development program.

Monica Lemmon, MD, has recently been awarded the highly competitive 2021 Philip R. Dodge Young Investigator Award by the Child Neurology Society.
