Shaikh wins Physician Leadership Award at Duke Regional Hospital

Congratulations to Sophie Shaikh, MD, MPH, MSc, who recently received the Physician Leadership Award at Duke Regional Hospital (DRH). Dr. Shaikh, is an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health at Duke and has been seeing newborns at Duke Regional Hospital since 2016. She was elected Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Duke Regional Hospital in 2019 and has most recently served as the director of the DRH Newborn Nursery. In these roles, she has taken an active role in advancing the quality and safety of care for the Women's and Children's Service Lines. She has helped develop and implement protocols for neonatal management of infants born to COVID positive mothers in addition to leading efforts to manage the increased volume of patients over the past two years. Dr. Shaikh has also been serving on the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) as well as the MEC Leadership Committee. Through her efforts within these committees, she has been instrumental in establishing a curriculum to help develop future medical staff leaders. She has also served as a member of the Credentials Committee since 2018. Thanks to Dr. Shaikh, whose contributions have facilitated the recognition of Duke Regional Hospital as one of the best hospitals for maternity care in the United States!
