We are thrilled to announce that the Children's Procedural Sedation Unit at Duke University School of Medicine has earned the prestigious Center of Excellence in Pediatric Sedation designation from the Society for Pediatric Sedation® (SPS). This honor reflects the exceptional care we provide to our pediatric patients and the unwavering dedication of our team.
"As Medical Director of the Children's Procedural Sedation Unit, I had the privilege of leading the application process, and I want to extend a special thank you to Emily Sterrett, MD, for her invaluable support in navigating this rigorous application. This achievement is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Anesthesia, our exceptional nursing staff, and Child Life specialists. I would also like to express gratitude to our hospital leadership for their continued support," said Samrat Das, MD, Director of the Children's Procedural Sedation Unit.
This prestigious designation is awarded to only a select few centers nationwide—currently, only 10 hospitals in the U.S. hold this distinction. We are proud to join their ranks, and this achievement will help elevate our reputation in the medical community, further reinforcing the high-quality care we provide.
The Center of Excellence designation will be effective from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2029.
