The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics for the months of October 2020 through January 2021. Congratulations to these faculty on their awards and best wishes to them in their investigative work.

October 2020

Coleen Cunningham, MD (Infectious Diseases) received an award from Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. in the amount of $108,361 for a project entitled A Phase 2 Clinical Study to Evaluate the Pharmacokinetics, Safety, and Efficacy of Doravirine/Islatravir in Adolescents with HIV-1 Infection who are Virologically Suppressed, are ≥12 to <18 Years of Age, and Weigh ≥35 kg. The project period is 11/16/2020-11/15/2022.

Michael Deel, MD (Hematology-Oncology) received an award Hyundai Hope on Wheels 2020 Scholar grant in the amount of $300,000 for a project entitled Novel Vulnerabilities within PAX3-FOX01 Transcriptional Programming for Fusion-Positive Rhabdomyosarcoma. The project period is 12/29/2020-12/31/2022.

Mohamad Mikati, MD (Neurology) received an award from Stridebio grant in the amount of $706,765 for a project entitled Optimization of Gene Therapy in Mouse Model of ATP1A3 Mutation. The project period is 10/13/2020-11/30/2022.

David Ming, MD (Hospital Medicine) received an award from Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers in the amount of $10,000 for a project entitled Regional Complex Care Conference. The project period is 06/15/2020-04/30/2021.

Sallie Permar, MD, PhD (Infectious Diseases) and Jennifer Jenks (Molecular Genetics and Microbiology) received an award from the National Institutes of Health Fellowship award in the amount of $126,149 for a project entitled Immune Correlates of Protection Against Nonprimary Congenital Cytomegalovirus Transmission in an HIV-Infected Mother-Infant Cohort. The project period is 11/1/2020-10/31/2023.

Eliana Perrin, MD, MPH (Primary Care) received a supplement from Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the amount of $64,109 for a project entitled Greenlight Plus Study a Randomized Study of Approaches to Early Childhood Obesity Prevention –COVID-19 Supplement. The project period is 07/01/2020/06/30/2021.

Kristin Schroeder, MD, MPH (Hematology-Oncology), Nelson Chao, MD, MBA (Cell Therapy and Hematologic Malignancies) and Michael Kastan, MD, PhD (Pharmacology and Cancer Biology) received a supplement award from National Institutes of Health/NCI in the amount $199,940 for a project entitled Development of Culturally Adapted Pediatric Cancer Awareness Campaign in Tanzania. The project period is 09/08/2020-08/31/2021.

Asheley Skinner, PhD (Population Health Sciences) and Sarah Armstrong, MD (Primary Care) received an award from Mitre Corporation/Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the amount of $187,436 for a project entitled” CODI 2.0.  The project period is 12/01/2020-06/30/2021.

Dorothy Dow, MD, MSc (Infectious Diseases) received a competing renewal award from Johns Hopkins University in the amount of $66,388 for a project entitled” LOC-IMPAACT 2016 Protocell Co-Chair Support”. The project period is 12/01/2020-11/30/2025.

Matthew Kelly, MD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) received a competing renewal award from Johns Hopkins University in the amount of $74,342 for a project entitled” LOC-IMPAACT Leadership Group”. The project period is 12/01/2020-11/30/2025.

Matthew Kelly, MD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) received an award from Merck in the amount of $297,771 for a project entitled “The Role of the Upper Respiratory Microbiome in Mediating Synergism Between Respiratory Viruses and Pneumococcus“.  The project period is 11/18/2020-09/30/2022.

Krzysztof Kiryluk, MD (Columbia University/Nephrology) and Rasheed Gbadegesin, MD, MBBS (Nephrology) received an award from Columbia University/NIH in the amount of$26,722 for a project entitled” Genomics of Glomerular Disease”. The project period is 06/01/2020-05/31/2023.

William Malcolm, MD (Neonatology) received an award from MedBlue in amount $54,066 for a project entitled “Utilizing an Automatic Data Pipeline to Generate Patient Outcomes Prediction Models for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Surveillance”. The project period is 09/23/2020-08/15/2021.

John Sleasman, MD (Allergy and Immunology) received an award from ADMA Biologics in the amount of $111,365 for a project entitled “A Phase IV, Multicenter, Open-label Study to Evaluate the Safety and Pharmacokinetics of BIVIGAM® in Primary Immune Deficiency Disorders in Subjects Aged 2 to 16”.  The project period is 10/26/2020-12/30/2021.

December 2020

Matthew Kelly, MD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) received an award from Merck in the amount of $251,603 for a project entitled Gene Expression Profiling of Children with SARS-VoV-2 Infection or Exposure. The project period is 10/01/2020-09/30/2021.  

Andrew Landstrom, MD, PhD (Cardiology) received an award from the University of Utah/NIH in the amount of $1,185,305 for a project entitled The Role of PRDM16 in Cardiac Development and Cardiomyopathy. The project period is 07/01/2020-06/30/2025. 

Monica Lemmon, MD (Neurology) received an award from the Band Foundation in the amount $52,000 for a project entitled Having the Conversation: A Communication Guide for Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. The project period is 04/01/2021-0331/2023. 

Corinne Linardic, MD, PhD (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in the amount of $7,913 for a project entitled Faces of Research 2020. The project period is 01/04/2021-01/03/2022. 

William Malcolm, MD (Neonatology) received an award from MedBlue Incubator in the amount of $103,387 for a project entitled Active Surveillance of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in Healthy US infants: A Pilot Study to Determine Feasibilty of Establishing a Network. The project period is 12/28/2020-01/27/2022. 

Eliana Perrin, MD (Primary Care Pediatrics) and Dean Miner, MD (Primary Care Pediatrics) received an award from Yale University in the amount of $431,270 for a project entitled Implementation of Decision Support for the Management of Obesity in a National Pediatric Primary Care Research Network.
