HEAL residents will:
- Develop a better understanding of the social determinants of health and health disparities in our surrounding community and beyond.
- Be equipped with skills and tools to be child health advocates as pediatricians and advocacy leaders
- Engage with community partners and stakeholders.
- Experience mentorship towards careers focused on health disparities research, scholarship, and advocacy
Interns can apply for this advanced advocacy track in the winter of their intern year, and selected residents will start the track as second years. Key features of this program include a two-week core content elective followed by a longitudinal curriculum of didactic and small group sessions as well as protected time to work on a project. Residents will choose and develop a HEAL project over the course of their two years in the track. HEAL residents will receive project and career mentorship, develop skills in advocacy and health equity, and participate in leadership development. Upon completion, HEAL residents will be prepared to move on to the next step of their careers ready to tackle health disparities!
