What are the strengths of your training program?
Duke’s Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) fellowship program offers an incredibly supportive environment, with a wonderful group of co-fellows who I can say are not just my coworkers but also close friends. We have a 20-bed unit that gives us the opportunity to care for a diverse population of critically ill children with a wide variety of medical and surgical needs. We also spend time in the cardiac ICU (PCICU) where we receive in-depth training in the management of children with complex congenital and acquired heart diseases.

How are you involved in research? What are your research interests?
I did a PhD in basic science but now focus on learning new research methods. My main research project is looking at how procalcitonin affects antibiotic use in children with viral respiratory infections. I have also had the opportunity to join several large clinical trials.

How do you spend your time outside of work?
I am a mother to two young very lively girls. My free time is spent with them at Taekwondo or at the Museum of Life and Science, anything to tire them out. After the girls go to sleep, you can find my husband and I out around town trying new local restaurants in Durham.
