REFLECTIONS ON THE DUKE PROGRAM

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program that offered both fantastic training and global health opportunities among an environment that feels like a family. One where I could see my co-residents becoming close friends, and attending physicians becoming mentors. It is without a doubt that after meeting all the wonderful residents, coordinators, Dr. Moorthy and Dr. Mallory on interview day, that Duke immediately felt like the family I had been looking for.

What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you?
Global health opportunities including both in a local and global setting, advocacy projects with local community in addition to potentially advocacy projects at a national level, running clubs/groups, anything related to dogs for my labrador to find some friends, once my career path/fellowship is more decided then I would also love to be involved in research relating to that field, any sort of wellness groups/committees.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
Global health track, fellowship, and opportunities. I know everyone says it, but the people I met have all been so incredibly kind. Dr. Moorthy was one of my interviewers, and I cannot wait to get to meet her in-person, she was so memorable for me. The research opportunities in all fields of fellowship, especially as people get closer to deciding on fellowship. Duke having such a wide breadth and depth of fellowships at the institution. The beautiful campus and hospital system!

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I have never lived here, and cannot wait to learn what the best things are about living in the Triangle area!
