Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted a medium-sized program at an academic institution with robust research opportunities as well as community outreach programs. I also wanted a residency program with numerous fellowship opportunities so that I could train with fellows and learn from and alongside them. Finally, I wanted a children's hospital that was distinct in location but close in proximity and integrated into the larger health network of the academic hospital to have additional resources and learning opportunities but still provide child-focused care.

What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you (i.e. committees, research, interest groups, QI, etc.)?

About Duke and Durham

What’s best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
So much amazing food, fun outdoor things to do (Duke Gardens, tobacco trail), everything is extremely close by (2 hours to the beach, 2:30 to the mountains), and it is so affordable! There are so many towns and cities to explore as well - Cary, Chapel Hill, Raleigh - so I always have something fun and exciting to do on my days off. During the week after shifts, I can easily go into Durham and have dinner or go to happy hour at new restaurants with my co-residents.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I love to bake and our night shift schedule really allows for me to make more complicated baked goods like scones and cinnamon rolls because we have so much time off between shifts. I am also very outdoorsy so almost daily I go for walks along the Third Fork Creek trail near my house, but I have also been on a few bike rides on the American Tobacco Trail and a few walks at Duke Gardens.
