Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted a strong academic program that prioritized resident education and served a diverse patient population. Duke provides a variety of inpatient, outpatient and research experiences while also being very integrated into the community. I have been impressed with the commitment to advocacy and resources for patient’s and their families. Overall, Duke has created a very collaborative, diverse and supportive environment--all of the things I was looking for!

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
The people!! I have loved getting to know my co-interns and senior residents! Everyone has been very welcoming and supportive. The leadership is super responsive and caring. The faculty provide a great balance of guidance, encouragement and autonomy.

About Duke and Durham

What’s best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Coming from the Midwest, I am most excited about the weather! I now have tons of opportunities to hang out by the pool or lakes, play soccer, rollerblade, BBQ and of course try out all the fun outdoor restaurants and breweries. Everything is very close and conveniently located. We’re only a short trip to the beach, mountains and of course Asheville!

What advice would you give about moving to Durham?
Move early-ish so you have extra time to explore all of the things Durham has to offer! Pack your sunglasses, swimsuit, and bugspray and leave your winter coat and boots behind.
