Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I am interested in pursuing a fellowship so wanted to train somewhere that would expose me to these options early on. We have several opportunities for electives throughout our intern year.      I also enjoy working with underserved populations and how this intersects with global health. We have a month long community and advocacy rotation to engage with our local patient population. As part of the larger Duke University system, we have access to their global health resources as well and the unique opportunity to go abroad for two consecutive months during third year.                                                                                                                                  Lastly, I couple matched with my fiancé who is an emergency medicine resident here at Duke. I wanted a program where we would both receive excellent clinical training in a supportive and fun environment.

What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you (i.e. committees, research, interest groups, QI, etc.)?

About Duke and Durham

What’s best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
The easy access to the outdoors! Coming from Houston, I have loved being able to run after a long day on the scenic trails. We are so excited to explore the nearby mountains and beaches too!

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy running and spending time outside with family and friends. We have two golden retrievers who have loved exploring here! My youngest brother is aa senior at Duke, so it has been wonderful living near him again (and having  a free dog sitter). We also enjoy visiting our friends across the country (from California to Colorado to Virginia).
