Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?During the process of looking at residency programs, it boiled down to two parts. I wanted to be at an academic program with both complex/high acuity care and bread-and-butter pediatrics. I wanted to be exposed to a wide spectrum of patients and illness that I may only see once in my career. At the same time, I knew I needed an environment of a tight-knit group of residents who were down to earth and would support each other. Duke truly blends this all together and I couldn't be happier with my choice!

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
I remember watching morning report on interview day. It was filled with jokes and laughs and you could tell that the sense of being close friends rather than just co-workers was abundant here. Duke attracts some wicked smart people who are genuine and fun to be around. My co-residents are phenomenal and I couldn't have asked for a better group of friends to work with every day.

Personal interests

What do you like to do outside of work?
Music is a huge passion of mine! I play bass guitar primarily but have also picked up piano and ukulele. I enjoy writing, recording, and mixing songs in my "home studio" whenever I can. And the answer is yes; I'm always down for a jam session.

What is something interesting/surprising about you?
I traveled to Korea before residency and somehow got featured in a few videos by a semi-famous Korean YouTube personality.
