Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
Fun location, job opportunities for my spouse who works in higher ed, strong program leadership, and complex pathologies to enhance learning.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
1. Mia Mallory - you have a PD that actively supports residents, listens, and is working to improve the program.

2. Depth of learning - many of the people here not only know the guidelines but actively help write them, so you learn not only what the guideline says but what the supporting literature says so you can better apply the recommendations

3. Night shifts - every other nights sound weird as a 4th year medical student, but as a husband and dad, it means significantly more quality time with my people.

About Duke and Durham

What’s best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Big city amenities but it takes less than 15 minutes to get everywhere. Lots of great outdoor recreational opportunities - we are right next to a large state park and river. It takes two hours to get lost in the mountains or be on the beach.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Go to the Museum of Life and Science, go for walks on the trails, and take quick weekend beach trips.
