Reflections on the Duke program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for an academic children's hospital with a diverse patient population, but in a city that is a community. I was drawn to Duke for the way we work with our community -- working to combat health disparities and barriers to health, and delivering culturally sensitive and driven care. My co-residents are so passionate, caring, and fun to spend time with (both inside and outside of the hospital!).
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
I wanted to come to Duke because of the collegiality! We are able to learn and train in such a supportive and collaborative environment. I got a terrific sense of the program's team-oriented culture on my interview day, and it's lived up to the hype. Duke's program also places a strong emphasis on medical education and teaching. Whether it be with medical students on the floors, or through the robust conference schedule, I know I'm being challenged to think about pediatric medicine in new and creative ways.
About Duke University and Durham
What’s the best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I love to eat and spend time outside, so the Triangle is a perfect area. I've been so impressed with how restaurants have adapted during COVID, and I can't wait to keep trying new places! I'm currently making my way through ice cream spots. And as a Vermonter, it was important for me to train in a region where I could go for walks or hikes in my free time. It is a beautiful place to live!
