Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a fellowship program?
I was looking for an academic program that provided equal training in Hematology & Oncology

What are the strengths of the Duke program:
There are many strengths of the Duke program. The top two strengths are the equal exposure to hematology and oncology as well as the autonomy as a fellow. The training is equally split between hematology and oncology, which allows us to feel comfortable taking care of a variety of patients. Also as a fellow I am the primary provider for a whole panel of patient’s that I have collected over my year of training. The attendings provide their guidance when you are medically managing the patient but you are the main provider.

How are you involved in research? What are your research interests?
My research interest are mainly in hematology. I was rewarded the T32 Hematology research grant, which has allowed me to join Dr. Yang’s lab. His lab is part of the Biochemistry department. Dr. Yang's work on the molecular basis of ion and lipid transport across red blood cell membranes aligns with my commitment to unraveling the complexities of hematological disorders. I am inspired by the lab's dedication to providing insights and developing therapeutics that can ultimately prevent and treat related diseases.
