REFLECTIONS ON THE DUKE PROGRAM
What were you looking for in a residency program?
As a Durham native and aspiring physician-scientist, I was looking for a pediatrics residency program that offered elite medical and scientific opportunities in a family friendly, affordable area. Moreover, the unique structure of the Duke Pediatric Research Scholars program offered more access to research in residency than almost any other program in the country.
What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you?
As a graduate of Duke's MD/PhD program, I am looking forward to continuing to remain involved in basic science research at the intersection of drug discovery, chemical biology, and pediatric oncology.
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
In addition to all of the wonderful medical and scientific opportunities available at Duke, the peds program here has a noticeable family feel to it. The residents get along with one another, and the leadership really has the best interests of the trainees in mind.
MORE ABOUT THE RESIDENT
What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Durham offers the best of both worlds. It has many of the attractions of a big city, but is more family friendly and boasts a lower cost of living.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to spend time with my wife and daughter, as well as my parents and my three siblings in the area. As a former English major, I also like to spend time with old, dusty books.
