Routh named new Medical Director of Children's Surgery
Jonathan Routh, MD, Paul H. Sherman, MD Distinguished Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of Urology, associate professor of surgery, pediatrics and population health sciences, will assume the role of Medical Director of Children's Surgery.
Faculty Spotlight: Patsy Park, MD
This week's Faculty Spotlight shines on Patsy Park, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Cardiology. Park talks to us about her responsibilities as a pediatric cardiologist who also specializes in fetal cardiology and the wide range of patients she sees in the course of a typical day. She also talks about how she became interested in congenital heart disease and what inspired her to go to medical school.
Deel receives Hyundai Scholar Hope Award
Michael Deel, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, recently received a 2020 Hyundai Scholar Hope Award from Hyundai Hope On Wheels (HHOW). The official grant presentation was conducted via a virtual handshake ceremony on September 9 to coincide with National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Remembering Malcolm Henderson Rourk, Jr, MD
Malcolm Henderson Rourk, Jr, MD, died on Friday, September 4. Dr. Rourk was an assistant professor of pediatrics from 1971 - 2002 and an assistant professor of family medicine and community health from 1994 – 1995 at Duke University Medical Center.

Duke-RTI to serve as coordinating center for newly established NIAID-funded CREID network
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has awarded RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, in partnership with the Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI), the coordinating center role for the newly established Centers for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases (CREID) network. The CREID Coordinating Center will serve as the network’s operational hub to streamline and accelerate research response to emerging infectious disease outbreaks.
