RFA: Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Trainee Conference Awards

The Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce a request for applications for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) Trainee Conference Awards, made possible by proceeds from CMN Hospitals fundraising activities for the Department of Pediatrics. The goal of this program is to defray the cost of medical and scientific meetings, including travel, for residents and subspecialty fellows in the Department of Pediatrics. Recipients will receive up to $2000. Applications will be accepted during two cycles: Fall and Spring.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall Cycle: Thursday, September 30, 2021
  • Spring Cycle: Thursday, March 31, 2022

Eligibility

Applicants must be a resident or fellow in a medical training program housed within the Department of Pediatrics (including the Medicine-Pediatrics residency program) at both the time of the application and at the time of conference attendance.

Priority will be given to recipients who:

  • Are giving a platform presentation
  • Have not received any other travel assistance and who do not have other means of supporting conference travel
  • Are presenting at national or international conferences

Application Format

Applications must include the following:

  • A brief cover letter detailing the need for the travel award (1 page or less)
  • Demonstration of an accepted abstract for a specific scientific meeting
  • Budget for up to $2000 detailing expected conference and travel expenses

Award Administration

  • Recipients will be able to access funding by providing receipts for reimbursement of expenses related to meeting attendance (registration, hotel, airfare, etc.).
  • All funds must be spent within 12-months of notice of award.
  • All travel expenses must conform to any rules/regulations put forth by the department and the School of Medicine.
  • Recipients must make themselves available for a brief interview with the CMNH development team and may be asked to assist in the development of a brief lay summary of their work for use by the development team.

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) is the alliance of premier children's hospitals in North America. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America. Since 1983, these non-profit hospitals have provided the finest care, research and community outreach to help millions of children with diseases and injuries of every kind, raising more than $2.1 billion. Each year, Duke Children's participates in Children's Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising activities and sets aside a portion of the net proceeds from these events and partnerships for the CMN Hospitals Research Fund. These funds will support several awards geared towards residents, subspecialty fellows, and postdoctoral researchers as well as junior faculty in the Department of Pediatrics.
