New and competing renewal awards for September 2021

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics through the month of September 2021. Please extend your congratulations to the following individuals.

Stephen Balevic (Rheumatology) received a new award from Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance, Inc. in the amount of $37,523 for a project entitled, CARRA Registry Assistant Scientific Director. The project period is 09/01/2021-08/31/2023. 

Mara Becker (Rheumatology) received a new award from National Institutes of Health/NICHD in the amount of $1,500,903 for a project entitled, PTN 2.0 TO 6 Clinical Pharmacokinetics & Safety Trials in Down Syndrome Extension. The project period 09/12/2019-06/30/2025.

Danny Benjamin (Infectious Diseases), Kanecia Zimmerman (Critical Care Medicine) and Rachel Greenberg (Neonatology) received a new (task order) award from the National Institutes (NICHD) in the amount of $849,525 for a project entitled, Pediatric Trials Network 2.0 Task Order #1_Core Function Activities Award Period #4 Option 3. The project period is 06/04/2021-06/03/2022.

Danny Benjamin (Infectious Diseases), Kanecia Zimmerman (Critical Care Medicine) and Rachel Greenberg (Neonatology) received a new (task order) award from the National Institutes (NICHD) in the amount of $359,911 for a project entitled, Pediatric Trials Network 2.0 Task Order #1_Core Function Activities Supplement Award Period #4 Option 3.1. The project period is 06/01/2021-05/31/2022.

Micheal Cohen-Wolkowiez (Infectious Diseases) received a supplemental award from the National Institutes of Health/NIMHD in the amount of $5,500,000 for a project entitled, RADx-UP SAY YES COVID Test Study. The project period is 08/23/2021-06/30/2022.

Areeg El-Gharbawy (Medical Genetics) received a new award from UltraGenyx Pharmaceutical in the amount of $985,456 for a project entitled, A Phase 3 Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study of Adeno-associated Virus Serotype 8-mediated GeneTransfer of Glucose-6-phosphatase in Patients with Glycogen Storage Disease Type Ia. The project period is 09/03/2021-09/30/2024.

Genevieve Fouda (Infectious Diseases), Matthew Kelly (Infectious Diseases) and Sallie Permar (Infectious Diseases, Weill Cornell Medicine) received a new award from the National Institutes of Health/NIAID in the amount of $3,996,243 for a project entitled, Early Life B Cell Responses and Inflammation Following SARS-CoV-2 Infection. The project period is 09/17/2021-08/31/2026.

Christoph Hornik (Critical Care Medicine) and Danny Benjamin (Infectious Diseases) received a new award from the National Institutes of Health/NICHD in the amount of $2,089,053 for a project entitled, Defining the Safety and Efficacy of Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation in Children. (Pediatric Trials Network 2.0 TO #10 - POSITRON-C). The project period is 9/13/2021 – 9/12/2024.

Andrew Landstrom (Cardiology) received a new award from University of British Columbia in the amount of $150 (per patient enrolled) for a project entitled, Physical Activity in Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia. The project period is 09/20/2021-06/30/2022.

David Ming (Hospital Medicine) received a new award from Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality in the amount of $299,999 for a project entitled, Feasibility Study of a Mobile Digital Personal Health Record for Family-Centered Care Coordination for Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs. The project period is 09/30/2021-09/29/2023.

Ann Reed (Rheumatology) received a new award from New York University in the amount of $9,000 for a project entitled, TFH Cells in Human Myositis. The project period is 04/05/2021-03/31/2022.

P. Brian Smith (Neonatology) and Rachel Greenberg (Neonatology) received a new supplemental award from National Institutes of Health/NICHD for a project entitled, ECHO Administrative Supplement – Neonatal Opioid Trials. The project period is 09/01/2021-08/31/2022.

William Steinbach (Infectious Diseases), Janet Englund (Infectious Diseases and Virology-Seattle Children's), Betsy Herold (Infectious Diseases-Albert Einstein College of Medicine) and Elaine Tuomanen (Infectious Diseases-St. Jude Children's Research Hospital) received a new award from the National Institutes of Health/NIAID in the amount of $4,126,972 for a project entitled, Multi-Center Evaluation of the Threat of Established and Emerging Respiratory Viral Infections in Pediatric Transplant Recipients. The project period is 09/17/2021-08/31/2026.

Kanecia Zimmerman (Critical Care Medicine) and Danny Benjamin (Infectious Diseases) received a new award from the National Institutes of Health/NICHD in the amount of $3,953,589 for a project entitled, Pharmaceuticals (PK) and Safety of Commonly Used Drugs in Lactating Women and Breastfed Infants (Pediatric Trials Network 2.0 TO # 11 - CUDDLE 2.0). The project period is 9/23/2021 – 9/22/2024.
