New and competing renewal awards for March 2021

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics for the month of March 2021.

Danny Benjamin Jr, MD, PhD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) and Michael Cohen-Wolkowiez, MD, PhD (Infectious Diseases) received an award from the Food and Drug Administration in the amount of $500,000 for a project entitled, Global Pediatric Clinical Trials Network-Supplement Award Period #4. The project period is 09/01/2020-08/31/2022.

Danny Benjamin Jr, MD, PhD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) and Kanecia Zimmerman, MD (Critical Care Medicine) received an award from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in the amount of $500,000 for a project entitled, ABCs of North Carolina Plan A. The project period is 03/26/2021-09/15/2021.

Eileen Chambers, MD (Nephrology) received an award from National Institutes of Health/NICHD in the amount of $442,750 for a project entitled, Development of a Novel Acoustofluidic Device for Targeted Antibody Removal in Pediatrics Organ Transplant Rejections. The project period is 04/01/2021-03/31/2023.

Michael Cohen-Wolkowiez, MD, PhD (Infectious Diseases) (contact PI) and Christoph Hornik, MD, MPH (Critical Care Medicine) (Lead) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NIMHHD in the amount of $9,520,571 for a project entitled, RADx-UP Say Yes Covid Test Study. The project period is 03/08/2021--01/31/22.

Gregory Crawford, PhD (Medical Genetics), Charles Gersbach, PhD (Biomedical Engineering) and Patrick Sullivan, MD (UNC/Psychiatry and Genetics) received an award from National Institutes of Health/NIMH in the amount $8,050,699 for a project entitled, Beyond GWAS: High Throughput Functional Genomics & Epigenome Editing to Elucidate the Effects of Genetic Associations for Schizophrenia. The project period is 04/01/2021-01/31/2026.

Dorothy Dow, MD, MScGH (Infectious Diseases) received an award from National Institutes of Health/NIMH in the amount of $2,534,716 for a project entitled, A Mental Health Intervention to Improve HIV Outcomes in Tanzanian Youth. The project period 04/01/2021-01/31/2026.

Matthew Kelly, MD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) received an award from Cornell University in the amount of $45,149 for a project entitled, Pediatric Research Immune Network on SARS-CoV-2 and MIS-C (PRISM). The project period is 03/01/2021-08/31/2022.

Talal Mousallem, MD (Allergy and Immunology) received an award from Leadiant Biosciences, Inc in amount of $57,295 project entitled, Single Arm, Open-Label Multicenter, Registry Study of Revcovi (elapagademase-lvlr) Treatment in ADA-SCID Patients Requiring Enzyme Replacement Therapy. The project period is 03/17/2021-06/30/2021.

Ann Reed, MD (Rheumatology) and Corinne Linardic, PhD (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from National Institutes of Health/ NICHD in the amount of $1,571,400 for a project entitled, Duke Center for Advancement of Child Health (CAtCH). The project period is 04/01/2021-03/31/2026.

Edward Smith, MD (Neurology) received an award from the Muscular Dystrophy in the amount of $5,000 for a project entitled, 2021 PPMD CDCC. The project period is 01/01/2021-12/31/2021.

Lars Wagner, MD (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia/NIH in the amount of $5,001 for a project entitled, NIH COG Pediatric Early Phase Clinical Trial Network Grant (PEP-CTN). The project period is 08/01/2020-07/31/2023.

Lars Wagner, MD (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia/NIH in the amount of $5,901 for a project entitled, Specimen Banking Supplements. The project period is 03/01/2020-02/28/2021.

Lars Wagner, MD (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from Moffitt Cancer Center in the amount of $ 24,072 for a project entitled, A Phase IB/II study to evaluate the Safety, Feasibility and Efficacy of Nivolumab or Nivolumab in Combination with 5-Azacytidine in Patients with Recurrent Resectable Osteosarcoma. The project period is 04/01/2020-06/30/2022.
