New and competing renewal awards for January 2023

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics through the month of January 2023.  Please extend your congratulations to the following individuals.

Karl-Dimiter Bissig (Medical Genetics) and Aravind Asokan (Biomedical Engineering) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NIDDK entitled, Dissecting AAV Silencing in Humanized Mice. The project period 02/01/2023-01/31/2027.

Jeffrey Dvergsten (Rheumatology) received an award from Cure JM Foundation entitled, Cell-Free Mitochondrial DNA Induces Type 1 Interferon Production in an Experimental Myobundle Model of Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). The project period is 12/01/2022-11/30/2023.

Areeg El-Gharbawy (Medical Genetics) received an award from Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. entitled, Medical Education and Awareness Program for Lysosomal Storage Disorders. The project period 01/23/2023-01/31/2025.

Rachel Greenberg (Neonatology) received an award from Central Michigan University entitled, Model for Extubation Readiness Timing Amount Preterm Infants: MERIT Preterm study. The project period is 01/22/2023-09/30/2024.

Priya Kishnani (Medical Genetics) received an award from Kriya Therapeutics for a project entitled, Transfer of Livers from WT Mice in Study 1: MED Investigation. The project period is 01/04/2023-11/30/2023.

Priya Kishnani (Medical Genetics) received an award from Sanofi US for a project entitled, A Prospective Observational Study to Describe Outcomes of Alglucosidase Alfa Treatment in Patients <6 months of age with Infantile-Onset Pompe Disease (IOPD). The project period is 12/07/2022-04/01/2024.

Corinne Linardic (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from Public Health Institute for a project entitled, COG NCTN Year 9 BIQSFP Supplement& Progress Report. The project period is 12/08/2022-02/28/2023.

Mohamad Mikati (Neurology) received an award from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center entitled, Gene Therapy of ATP1A3 Related Disease. The project period is 01/16/2023-01/15/2025.

John Sleasman (Allergy/Immunology) received an award from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill/NIH  for a project entitled, Vaccine-Induced SARS-CoV-2 Specific T Cell Responses in Patients with X-Linked Agammaglobulinemia. The project period is 01/09/2023-12/31/2024.

John Sleasman (Allergy/Immunology) received an award from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill/NIH for a project entitled, Research Training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. The project period is 08/19/2022-07/31/2027.

Edward Smith (Neurology) received an award from Biohaven Pharmaceuticals for a project entitled, A Randomized Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled, Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Taldefgrobep Alfa in Ambulatory and Non-Ambulatory Participants with Spinal Muscular Atrophy with Open Lab. The project period is 01/12/2023-04/28/23.

Betty Staples (General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health) received an award from Josiah Macy Jr Foundation for a project entitled, Duke Civility Champions. The project period is 02/01/2023-01/31/2024.

Rebecca Sudan (Rheumatology) received an award from The Research Foundation/Amgen, Inc. for a project entitled, Amgen Fellowship Training Award. The project period is 07/001/2023-06/30/2024.

Noelle Younge (Neonatology) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NIDDK for a project entitled, Bacterial Mediators of Postnatal Growth in Preterm Infants. The project period is 01/01/2023-12/31/2024.
