New and competing renewal awards for January 2022

The following is a list of new and competing renewal awards that were made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics for the month of January 2022. Please extend your congratulations to the following individuals. 

Stephen Balevic (Rheumatology) received an award from Purdue Pharma in the amount of $88,113 for a project entitled, OxyContin Pediatric PMR Study. The project period is 01/01/2022-06/30/2022. 

Debra Best (General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health) received an award from the Duke Endowment in the amount of $237,865 for a project entitled, Targeting Infant Development through Early Screening (TIDES). The project period is 01/01/2022-12/31/2022. 

Karl-Dimiter Bissig (Medical Genetics) received an award from Alnylam Pharmaceutic in the amount of $202,092 for a project entitled, Interference for Tyrosinemia Type 1.  The project period is 01/18/2022-01/17/2023. 

Karl-Dimiter Bissig (Medical Genetics) and Christopher Newgard (Medicine-Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition) received a Research Collaboration agreement from Icagen and Duke University in the amount of $190,094. The project period is 01/24/2022-12/30/2022.  

Julie Kim-Chang (Allergy and Immunology) received an award from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in the amount of $59,460 for a project entitled, ATN Neurocognitive Study. The project period is 12/01/2021-05/31/2022. 

Angela McCall (Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/HLBI in the amount of $211,328 for a project entitled Novel Adjunctive Therapies for Pompe Disease.  The project period is 01/01/2022-12/2023. 

Edward Smith (Neurology) received an award from NS Pharma, Inc in the amount of $73,022 for a project entitled, Long Term Use of Viltolarsen in Boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in Clinical Practice. The project period is 12/21/2021-08/31/2031. 

Jessica Sun (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from Cellectar Biosciences in the amount of $307,687 for a project entitled, An Open-Labe, Dose Escalation, Efficacy, and Safety Study of CLR 131 in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults with Select Solid Tumors, Lymphoma, and Malignant Brain Tumors. The project period is 12/29/2021-12/31/2023. 

Kristin Weimer (Neonatology) received an award from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia/Gerber Foundation in the amount of $11,000 for a project entitled, The Masking Study: Does Universal Masking Decrease Late-onset Infections in the NICU. The project period is 07/01/2021-06/30/2022. 

Muhammad Zafar (Neurology) received an award from GW Research Limited in the amount of $550,787 for a project entitled, A Long-term Safety Study to Assess the Potential for Chronic Liver Injury in Participants Treated with Epidiolex Oral Solution. The project period is 12/17/2021-10/31/2031. 

Muhammad Zafar (Neurology) received an award from SK Life Sciences in the amount of $245,874 for a project entitled, A Phase I, Open-Label, Pharmacokinetic, Dose - Escalation Study of Cenobamate in Pediatric Subjects with Partial Onset Seizures. The project period is 12/07/2021-12/31/2023.
