New and competing renewal awards for August 2021

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics through the month of August 2021. Please extend your congratulations to the following individuals.

Deeksha Bali (Medical Genetics) received an award from JCR Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. In the amount of $89,882 for a project entitled, Method Development and Data Validation for MPS II-Clinical Study. The project period is 08/20/2021-07/31/2022.

Pinar Gumus Balikcioglu (Endocrinology) received a supplemental award from the National Institutes of Health/NIDDK in the amount of $93,946 for a project entitled, Serotonin as a Novel Biomarker for Progression to Type 2 Diabetes in Obese Adolescents. The project period is 09/01/2021-02/28/2023.

Christoph Hornik (Critical Care Medicine) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NICHD in the amount of $794,942 for a project entitled, Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network-Clinical Site. The project period is 08/18/2021-07/31/2026.

Priya Kishnani (Medical Genetics) and Rebecca Gibson (MSTP/MGM Graduate Student) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NICHD in the amount of $127,605 for a project entitled, Liver-Directed AAV Gene Therapy for PHKG2-Glcogen Storage Disease lX (GSD lXy2). The project period is 09/01/2021-08/31/2024.

Dwight Koeberl (Medical Genetics) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NIAMSD in the amount of $3,365,536  for a project entitled, Stable Therapy in Pompe Disease Through Genome Editing. The project period is 08/01/2021-07/31/2026.

Neil Surana (Infectious Diseases) and Zeni Elizia Ramirez (MGM Graduate Student) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/Health/NIAID in the amount of $115,221 for a project entitled, Characterizing and Exploiting Ruminococcus Gnavus Mediated Induction of Antimicrobial Peptides. The project period is 09/01/2021-08/31/2024.
