New and competing renewal awards for April 2021

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics for the month of April 2021.

Danny Benjamin Jr, MD, PhD, MPH (Infectious Diseases), Adrian Hernandez, MD (Medicine-Cardiology), and Susanna Naggie, MD (Medicine-Infectious Diseases) received an award from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences in the amount of $153,848,390 for an award entitled, ACTIV 6 COVID-19 Outpatient Randomized Trial to Evaluate Efficacy of Repurposed Medications. The project period is 04/17/2021-03/31/2023.

Angelique Boutzoukas, MD (Infectious Diseases), Danny Benjamin Jr, MD, PhD, MPH (Infectious Diseases), Michael Cohen-Wolkowiez, MD, PhD (Infectious Diseases), and Kanecia Zimmerman, MD (Critical Care Medicine) received an award from the Thrasher Foundation in the amount of $26,750 for an award entitled, Duration of Post-Discontinuation Antibiotic Exposures in Premature Infants and Associated Outcomes. The project period is 07/01/2021-06/30/2023.

Rasheed Gbadegesin, MD, MBBS (Nephrology) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NICHD in the amount of $442,750 for an award entitled, Genetic Basis of Corticosteroid Response in Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome. The project period is 04/01/2021-03/31/2023.

Ronald Goldberg, MD (Neonaology) received an award from the Zeist Foundation in the amount of $300,000 for an award entitled, Jean and George Brumley Jr. Clinical Scholars Program. The project period is 04/01/2021-03/31/2024.

Andrew Landstrom, MD, PhD (Cardiology) and Robin M. Perelli (Graduate Student) received an award from the American Heart Association in the amount of $63,040 for an award entitled, Establishing Wnt Signaling-Mediated Pro-Arrhythmic Cardiac Remodeling. The project period is 04/01/2021-03/31/2023.

Corinne Linardic, MD, PhD (Hematology-Oncology) and Crystal Chiu (Undergraduate Student) received an award from Alex’s Lemonade Stand in the amount of $5,000 for an award entitled, Novel Regulators of Checkpoint Adaptation in Fusion-Positive Rhabdomyosarcoma. The project period is 05/17/2021-07/09/2021.

Jennifer Rothman, MD (Hematology-Oncology) received an award from Dova Pharmaceuticals in the amount of $151,621 for an award entitled, A Phase 3b, Multi-center Randomized, Double0blind, Placebo-controlled, Paralle-group Trial with an Open-label Extension Phase to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Avatrombopag for the Treatment of Thrombocytopenia in Pediatric Subjects with Immune. The project period is 03/18/2021-05/15/2025.

Laura Schanberg, MD (Rheumatology) received a four year extension from Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance in the amount of $22,992,929 for an amendment entitled, DCRI CARRA Registry (4 year extension). The extension project period is 01/01/2021-04/30/2027.

Kanecia Zimmerman, MD (Critical Care) and Danny Benjamin Jr, MD, PhD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) received an award from the National Institutes of Health/NICHHD in the amount of $3,004,526 for an award entitled, SARS-CoV-2 Screening and Diagnostic Testing for Return to K-12 Schools. The project period is 04/15/2021-03/31/2022.
