Deshler appointed senior executive director of development

Amy Deshler will join the Duke Health Development Office beginning July 5, leading development activities and philanthropy efforts for the Department of Pediatrics and Duke Children’s.

Deshler will collaborate with Ann M. Reed, MD, chair of the Department of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief, Duke Children’s and Ellen Medearis, vice president, Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs.

Deshler is currently associate chair, Department of Development at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where she has held successive leadership positions in development over the past 15 years. In her roles at Mayo, she has provided strategic direction and planning, leadership and management of staff, program development, and partnership and support for leaders and faculty in their development work. Deshler, who has a successful record in securing major and principal gifts, has also managed a number of volunteer groups. Prior to working in the development field, Deshler was team leader for Mayo’s Cancer Education Program, including development and implementation of a business plan for the Cancer Education Center, with oversight for staff contributors from Mayo Clinic, American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute.

“Amy is very eager to put her talents to work for Duke Pediatrics and Duke Children’s, and we are very fortunate to have her lead our development team,” says Reed. “Please join me in welcoming Amy to Duke!”
