Cultivating Collaborations

The Duke Department of Pediatrics is committed to creating community through collaboration. Many of our faculty and trainees are currently engaged in collaborative efforts across the University as well as with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), among many others. Here we mention some specific initiatives that put our shared commitment to collaboration with UNC-CH into practice:              

Research Collaborations with UNC-CH

Drs. Sallie Permar (Duke) and Ian Davis (UNC-CH) received a training grant award from NIH/NICHD. The project period is 05/01/2019-04/30/2024. Total Award: $2,510,529.

Drs. John Sleasman (Duke) and David Peden (UNC-CH) received a training grant award from NIH/NIAID. The project period is 09/01/2016-08/31/2021. Total Award: $1,797,764.

Drs. John Sleasman (Duke) and Lisa Hightow-Weidman (UNC-CH) received a cooperative agreement award from NIH. The project period is 09/15/2017-07/31/2022. Total Award: $2,910,645.

Drs. Coleen Cunningham (Duke) and Thomas BelhornChristopher Hurt (UNC-CH) received a Health Resources and Service Administration award. The project period is 08/01/2017-07/31/22. Total Award: $2,568,750.

Drs. Michael Cotten (Duke) and Matthew Laughon (UNC-CH) received an award from NIH/NICHD. The project period is 04/01/2016-03/31/2021. Total award to UNC-CH per year $123,047.

Drs. Vandana Shashi (Duke) and Stephen Hooper (UNC-CH) received an award from NIH. The project period is 09/19/2018-06/30/2022. Total award to UNC-CH per year $46,701.

Dr. Sallie Permar (Duke) and Kristina De Paris (UNC-CH) received an award from NIH. The project period is 04/21/2020-03/31/2025. Total award to UNC-CH for their UNC Administrative Core per year $76,193, and $391,860 per year for their Project 2.

Drs. Charlene Wong (Duke) and Michael Steiner (UNC-CH) received an award from CMS. The project period is 01/01/2020-12/31/2027. Total Award: $16,000,000.

Prime Awardee -- UNC-CH

Drs. Diane Berry (UNC-CH) and Eliana Perrin (Duke) received an award from NIH. The project period is 08/30/2018-06/30/2023. Total Award: $27,946 per year to Duke.

Drs. Karen Mohlke (UNC-CH) and Gregory Crawford (Duke) received an award from NIH. The project period is 08/01/2018- 07/31/2022. Total Award: $171,000 per year to Duke.

Drs. Michael O’Shea (UNC-CH) and Eliana Perrin (Duke) received an award from NIH. The project period is 09/01/2019-08/31/2020. Total Award: $42,108 per year to Duke.

Drs. Kim Brouwer (UNC-CH) and Michael Cohen-Wolkowiez (Duke) received a training grant award from NIH. The project period is 07/01/2011-06/30/2021. Total Award: $166,012 per year to Duke.

Drs. Matthew Laughon (UNC-CH) and Jason Lang (Duke) received an award from NIH. The project period is 06/01/2018-05/31/2021. Total Award: $187,206 per year to Duke.

Teaching Letters of Agreement

Teaching Letters of Agreement provide the opportunity for our residents and fellows to broaden their clinical and/or research experience by training at another institution. The following are some examples of current shared training opportunities between Duke and UNC-CH:
