Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
When I was looking at different residency programs, there were several things that were important to me. First, I wanted to train at a place that would give me a solid foundation in general pediatrics, but also allow be to have great exposure to all pediatric subspecialties. I was also looking for a medium-sized program where the residents and faculty and staff were very close and supportive of one another. After doing a sub-I here at Duke during my fourth year, I found both of those things and more!

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
I feel like Duke has a lot of strengths, but I think my favorite is the camaraderie between residents, faculty and staff. We are all on a first name basis here (even with attendings!), which makes the atmosphere conducive for great learning and development of strong mentorships and friendships.

About Duke and Durham

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Living in Durham is great because there is so much to do each night of the week. Being from NC, I have always visited Durham growing up, but it has really grown and developed a lot of the last five years or so. There are tons of great restaurants and bars to choose from, trails and rivers to hike and we are half an hour from Raleigh and Chapel Hill. You will never be looking for something to do, you will be deciding between lots of different options!

Personal interests

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to workout, bake, ride bikes, and enjoy the outdoors (except when it's cold!). I also like to hang out with family and friends and enjoy a fun game night every now and then!
