REFLECTIONS ON THE DUKE PROGRAM
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a supportive environment where faculty and residents genuinely care about each other and future applicants. I wanted to be somewhere where residents not only worked well together but also spent time with each other outside of the hospital. It was important to me to find a program that offered exposure to a wide variety of patient cases in general pediatrics and child neurology. I valued strong medical education, both as a learner and a teacher with the hopes of deepening my knowledge and contributing to the growth of others.
MORE ABOUT THE RESIDENT
What are you looking forward to most about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I'm most looking forward to exploring all that Durham and the Triangle have to offer, from the vibrant food scene to the abundance of green spaces for long walks with my dog. I'm excited to check out local bookstores, farmers' markets, and botanical gardens to fuel my love for reading, plants, and discovering new things. I can't wait to check out the performing and creative arts scene around the area.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I love going on long walks with my dog and enjoying the fresh air. I have a habit of buying more books than I can read at one time, but I enjoy having a large selection to choose the next story. I collect houseplants and take very good care of them. Spending time with my fiance, friends, and family is important to me, whether we are casually hanging out or there is a special occasion. I enjoy exploring different arts and crafts projects.
What is something interesting/surprising about you?
Something interesting about me is that I have played the violin since the 5th grade - 15 years and counting! In high school, I had the incredible opportunity to perform multiple times in the Missouri State Capitol Rotunda, both in trios and larger ensembles. I continued to play throughout undergrad, and even during my first two years of medical, I stayed involved by joining the campus orchestra.
