REFLECTIONS ON THE DUKE PROGRAM
What were you looking for in a residency program?
On the surface, I looked for a medium sized program that valued future academic pediatricians ready for a future of mentorship and leadership within academia. Duke's location also perfectly provides high patient volumes without the feeling of being overwhelmed by big-city life. More importantly, I felt most comfortable during my interviews with Duke. There are so many positives with the program. Combined with my comfort level, it was a no brainer for me.
What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you?
I would love to get involved early on with Duke's Medical School, whether that be working with medical students on clinical skills sessions, pediatric shelf reviews, etc. My career goals are to become an academic clinician and I would love to start honing my leadership and mentorship skills as soon as possible. Additionally, I look forward to getting involved in Global Health. I had the opportunity to visit Vietnam twice for the global health program at my medical school and I loved it.
MORE ABOUT THE RESIDENT
What are you looking forward to most about living in Durham and the Triangle?
The weather. Nothing else...I am just kidding, but growing up in California and then spending the past four winters in Pennsylvania, I am very tired of winter months well below freezing temperature and looking forward to a more moderate climate. With better weather year round, I am excited for golf season starting earlier in the year and finishing later. I have multiple friends in the area, from college and even high school that I am excited to see again.
What do you like to do outside of work?
In my free time I love to do a wide range of things! I love to play a lot of golf with my partner and friends and I definitely should be much better for how much I play. My partner and I also love traveling and the outdoors. We enjoy visiting national parks, taking weekend trips and hiking. When it comes to resting, sometimes we love to try new coffee shops where I can sit and play online chess for hours and she loves to read. Other times, we enjoy curling up on the couch and watching some TV.
What is something interesting/surprising about you?
I was born in England, and lived there until I was 12!
