REFLECTIONS ON THE DUKE PROGRAM
What were you looking for in a residency program?
Geography was an important factor for me. My wife is currently in graduate school, and we were expecting a baby at the start of residency, so staying in North Carolina was important to us. Having family and friends nearby for support was also important. In addition, I was looking for a program with a strong sense of community and a family-like atmosphere, where residents were comfortable not only working together but also spending time together outside of the hospital and building meaningful friendships.
What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you?
I am interested in quality improvement initiatives in General Pediatrics, particularly those focused on improving school health outreach, nutrition, and behavioral health. I am also excited to become more involved in medical education at Duke, working alongside medical students and faculty to strengthen the clinical learning environment while promoting a well-rounded approach to caring for our infants and children.
MORE ABOUT THE RESIDENT
What are you looking forward to most about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I love Durham because it offers the perfect balance of outdoor activities and exploring the city. Durham also has the Durham Bulls baseball team, the Durham Performing Arts Center, and so many great restaurants, shops, and concert venues. There is always something to do, while also being conveniently located near Raleigh and Chapel Hill for easy day trips. Duke Gardens is another hidden gem and a great place to relax and unwind.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love running, and there are plenty of trails nearby, including Duke Forest, the American Tobacco Trail, and the Eno River.
What is something interesting/surprising about you?
I enjoy long-distance running, triathlon training, and disc golf!
