REFLECTIONS ON THE DUKE PROGRAM

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted a program that gave me exposure to high acuity cases, where I would treat very sick kids in order to learn how to take of a whole spectrum of illnesses. I also wanted to be a part of a diverse community where I could serve patients who come from a similar background as me. As a participant in the couples match, I appreciated when programs supported the importance of having the people you love nearby. Duke checked all these boxes for me!

What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you?
I am really interested in the HEAL track, which focuses on health equity and leadership at Duke Pediatrics. Particularly, I'm interested in health equity in pediatric cancer survivors and hope to be involved in the survivorship clinic during my time at Duke.

MORE ABOUT THE RESIDENT

What are you looking forward to most about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Some of my closest friends live in Durham, so I am super excited to live near them again. As an outdoorsy girl, I love how close I am to nature at all times, whether is the beach, the mountains or my own backyard.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I love anything outside, including hiking, camping, gardening and kayaking. My favorite Durham hike so far is to the Eno River Quarry. I also enjoy cooking and baking, especially challenging new recipes. Around the holidays, my kitchen is about 75% filled with cookies.  Most of all, I love spending time on my porch with my husband and a good book.

What is something interesting/surprising about you?
I was on the Equestrian team at Florida State during undergrad!
