Reflections on the Duke program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a close-knit, medium-sized residency program with a family feel where I could serve a diverse patient population and see a wide variety of disease processes. I plan to pursue a career in academic medicine and was looking for a place that could support my interests in teaching and research.

What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you (i.e. committees, research, interest groups, QI, etc.)?
I plan to become involved in Duke's Teddy Bear Hospital Day this fall! The event played a large role in my medical school journey, and it would be meaningful to be able continue contributing as a resident. I also plan to get involved in clinical and QI research as well! I would also like to work with medical students, particularly in the Pediatric Interest Group, to help expose them to the field of pediatrics. Lastly, I would like to become involved in teaching and medical education.

About Duke and Durham

What’s best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I really enjoying living in Durham so far! The community is so welcoming and I felt at home as soon as I moved here. There are tons of restaurants, breweries, and hiking trails to explore. I appreciate being in relative proximity to both the mountains and beach so that we can visit on the weekends if we want a little get away!

What do you like to do outside of work?
In my spare time, I like to spend time outdoors, hike, catch up with friends, bake, travel, exercise, and explore the Triangle area.
