REFLECTIONS ON THE DUKE PROGRAM
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program that was the right "fit" with my personal professional goals (able to explore PICU and Heme/Onc, set up well for fellowship match opportunities, research engagement, and a well-respected program), family goals (support me and my wife in raising a family and living in a family friendly place), interpersonal goals (warm, welcoming, supportive program leadership and fellow residents), and a place that I would like to live (outdoor opportunities, not super dense urban environment, affordable)
What do you want to get involved in at Duke that particularly interests you?
I want to be involved with global health! I also hope to participate in research, supporting underserved populations and learning a bit more about advocacy structure.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I love anything outside. Camping, fishing, hiking, walking through the woods, gardening, hunting, being out on the water, biking, anything! I also like getting good food and desserts, hanging out with my family, woodworking, reading, and watching TV shows and movies
What is something interesting/surprising about you?
I have a lot of hobbies and always am down to try something new! Some of the new hobbies/interests I've studied, leaned into, or experimented with over the past few years include mountain biking, candle making, woodburning, leather work, bushcrafting, dirtbiking, knifemaking, bowhunting, beekeeping, woodwork, and several others! I like to try new things
