Skapek Named Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology

Stephen Skapek, MD, has been named Division Chief of Hematology-Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Skapek joined Duke in 2024 from the University of Texas Southwestern, where he served as Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. His research has made significant contributions to the understanding and treatment of childhood rhabdomyosarcoma, and he has been a dedicated champion for developing the next generation of physician–scientists through his leadership on numerous national training programs. Clinically, his expertise in solid tumors continues to elevate the exceptional care we provide. He is also a valued member of the Duke Cancer Institute and has already built strong and productive collaborations across the university.

"Dr. Skapek's vision, energy, and commitment position the division for continued strength and innovation," said Ann M. Reed, MD, chief of the Department of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief of Duke Children's.
