Sameer Kamath, MD, MBBS, has been named chief medical officer for Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center, effective September 1. Kamath currently serves as the hospital’s medical director for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and associate professor of pediatrics in the Division of Critical Care Medicine and is certified in pediatric critical care medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Kamath received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Mumbai University in Mumbai, India. He completed pediatric residencies in India as well as at MetroHealth Medical Center at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, also in Cleveland.
Prior to coming to Duke in 2015, Kamath held faculty positions at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has also published numerous journals articles, books and abstracts.
Kamath’s primary clinical interests include outcomes research, evidence-based health care utilization and quality/performance improvement.
