On Sunday, November 16, Duke Children’s and Duke Pediatrics proudly partnered with the Durham Museum of Life and Science to host this year’s Teddy Bear Hospital—an interactive, family-centered event designed to help children learn about healthcare in a fun, engaging, and comforting environment.
The event brought together an impressive multidisciplinary team of providers, representing Critical Care, Hospital Medicine, Medical Genetics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Primary Care, Hematology/Oncology, Neonatology, Nephrology, Urgent Care, and Pediatric Dentistry from Smiles. Each specialty hosted its own station, allowing children to “treat” their stuffed animals while learning about different aspects of medicine through hands-on demonstrations and child-friendly explanations
The partnership with the Durham Museum of Life and Science provided a dynamic setting that encouraged curiosity, learning through play, and positive early interactions with healthcare professionals. The presence of so many Duke clinicians highlighted our commitment to community engagement, education, and creating welcoming experiences for children and families.
The Teddy Bear Hospital continues to be a beloved tradition for Duke Children’s and Duke Pediatrics—one that fosters trust, reduces anxiety around medical care, and brings joy to families across our community.
