2027 Research Retreat

The Department of Pediatrics Samuel L. Katz 2027 Research Retreat will take place from April 12-14, 2027*.

CMT ACKNOWLEDGMENT: 
The Microsoft CMT service was used for managing the peer-reviewing process for this conference. This service was provided for free by Microsoft and they bore all expenses, including costs for Azure cloud services as well as for software development and support.

Manuscripts, referred here as abstracts, will be open for submissions on December 14, 2026* and are due on January 25, 2027*.

Author Guidelines 

This is an opportunity to share your research design, progress, and new insights with others in the Duke community.  Final results are not mandatory, and we welcome 'works in progress' and posters recently presented at other meetings. This opportunity is open to all Duke trainees (including students), research staff, and faculty.

  • All submitted abstracts will be included in an electronic abstract book and will be invited to participate in the poster session during the retreat.

  • Trainee abstracts (students, residents, fellows) will be peer-reviewed, with the ‘top’ abstract in each category selected for platform presentation.

  • Poster Session and Top Abstract Talks:

    Monday, April 12, 1:30-4:30pm*

Abstract Submission Deadline: 11:59pm Monday January 25, 2027 

Abstract Categories:

  • Basic/Translational Research

  • Clinical Research (includes Educational)

  • Public Health/Implementation Science

  • Improvement Science (improve a problem using quality improvement [QI] methods)

Please submit your abstract via this link. The survey will close on January 25, 2027 at 11:59PM.  

Below you can find the instructions for the abstract. Please note the character limit of 3000 including spaces. Abstracts will be submitted via CMT only.

The abstract should include a background and a clear hypothesis statement, an objective or aim, methodology, results and conclusions. If your abstract is from Quality Improvement please include the context and the problem, a SMART aim statement, followed by a description of measures, PDSA cycles, how data were displayed over time, summary of the results compared to control, lessons learned and next steps. Character limit includes spaces (3000).
