Duke Children’s has once again ranked among the nation's finest in the 2017-18 U.S. News & World Report's Best Children's Hospitals rankings announced June 27. Duke Children’s ranked among the top 50 nationally in 10 areas of specialty--cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
“We are proud and honored to be ranked by U.S. News & World Report in 10 programmatic areas,” says Ann Reed, MD, chair of the Duke Department of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief of Duke Children’s. “I firmly believe this distinction reflects the high quality care we deliver and our outstanding commitment to our patients and their families."
The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings highlight U.S. News’s top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in 10 specialties. The 2017-18 rankings were created from clinical data collected through a detailed survey sent to 187 facilities across the country.
Part of each hospital’s score is derived from surveys of board-certified pediatric specialists and subspecialists who were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty.
“The pediatric centers we rank in Best Children’s Hospitals deliver exceptionally high-quality care and deserve to be recognized for their commitment,” said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “Children with life-threatening illnesses or rare conditions need the state-of-the-art service and expertise these hospitals provide every day.”
U.S. News introduced the Best Children's Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of sick children find the best medical care available. Best Children's Hospitals 2017-18 goes beyond rankings, offering families an exclusive look at quality-related information at the individual hospital level. Survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, procedure volume, and much more can be viewed on the U.S. News & World Report website and will be published in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2018 Guidebook, available beginning in September.
