On September 23, 2018 four Duke Pediatrics staff members, including Allie Hansen, Gwen Pfeifer, Carol Ware, and Prachi Modi participated in the 2018 Triangle Heart Walk under the team name “Keeping the Pace.” The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premier fundraising effort to combat leading causes of death and disability in the United States: heart disease and stroke. Many survivors celebrate and share their stories during this annual event, hosted at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC. As a whole, the Triangle Heart Walk raised 1.7 million dollars and contributed 8,500 pounds of hurricane relief supplies that were collected at the event.
Duke Health had 256 teams, 2,241 registered walkers and raised more than $229,000.
“I know the past few weeks have been challenging, but you stepped up and once again made me proud,” said William J. Fulkerson, Jr., MD, Executive Vice President of Duke University Hospital. “The money you helped raise will be used to change policies, advocate for change, educate the community, and advance research. Duke benefits from our partnership with the American Heart Association and its support of cutting-edge research."
Congratulations to our Keeping the Pace team for their contributions to this year’s Heart Walk and for helping to build a healthier community for us all!
