NC Peds held their Winter Open Forum on January 27, 2018 at the Pinehurst Resort. The day-long event included updates regarding new lead screening and management standards, newborn screening for SCID, Medicaid reform, asthma and truancy, and the approach of NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to social determinants of health and substance-affected infants.
Of note, Debra Best, MD, gave an update regarding the Carolinas Collaborative, a North Carolina-South Carolina collaborative among pediatric residency training programs around advocacy and community engagement, and Klaus Werner, MD, PhD, and Elizabeth Rende, CPNP-PC, AC, spoke on “Headaches – when to refer?”
Finally, the Board of NC Peds is working to strengthen collaborations between NC Peds and pediatric subspecialists and academic medical centers. If you would like to participate in NC Peds or propose ways in which NC Peds can partner more effectively with Duke, please contact Richard Chung, MD at firstname.lastname@example.org.
