New and competing renewal awards for November 2019

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics through the month of November 2019. Please extend your congratulations to these individuals.

Kaveh Ardalan, MD (Rheumatology) received an award from Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance, Inc. in the amount of $25,000 for a research study entitled “Mental Health Screening in Juvenile Myositis: Pilot and Feasibility Study.” The project period is 10/01/2019 – 06/30/2020.

Salim Idriss, MD, PhD (Cardiology) received an award from Food and Drug Administration in the amount of $333,751 for a research study entitled “CSRC Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death in the Young: National Cardiac Screening Warehouse Pilot Study”.  The project period is 09/30/2019-09/29/2020.

Eliana Perrin, MD (Primary Care) received an award from McClay Foundation $186,300 for a research study entitled “Making a Big Difference with Small Items”.  The project period is 10/01/2019-09/30/2022.

Suhag Parikh, MBBS (Blood and Marrow Transplantation) received an award from Children’s Hospital - Los Angeles in the amount of $17,463 for a research study entitled “Busulfan Exposure-finding for SCID”.  The project period is 05/01/2019-04/30/2022.

Andrew Landstrom, MD, PhD (Cardiology) received an award from American SIDS Institute in the amount of $70,000 for a research project entitled “Cord blood-based biomarker discovery for sudden infant death syndrome risk”.  The project period is 03/01/2020- 02/28/2022.

Priya Kishanani, MD, MBBS (Medical Genetics) received an award from Amicus Therapeutics in the amount of $370,474 for a research study entitled “ An Open-Label Study of Pharmacokinetics, Safety, Efficacy, and Pharmacodynamics of ATB200/AT2221 in Pediatric Subjects aged 12 to <18 years with Late Onset Pompe Disease”.  The project period is 11/11/2019-12/31/2021.

Muhammad Zafar, MBBS (Neurology) received an award from Stokes Therapeutics in the amount of $70,651 for a research study entitled “An Observational Study to Investigate Cognition and Quality of Life in Children and Adolescents with Dravet Syndrome”.  The project period is 10/25/19-03/31/2022.

Muhammad Zafar, MBBS (Neurology) received an award from SK Life Science Inc., in the amount of $125,826 for a research study entitled “ Phase 1, Open-Label Pharmacokinetic, Dose Escalation Study of Carisbamate in Adult and Pediatric Subjects with lennox-Gastaut Syndrome “.  The project period is 10/31/2019-08/31/2022.

William Malcolm, MD (Neonatology) received an award from MedImmune Inc., in the amount of $193,600 for a research study entitled “A Phase 2/3 Randomized, Double-Blind Palivizumab- controlled Study to Evaluate the Safety of MEDI8897”.  The project period is 11/15/2019-12/31/2021.
