New and competing renewal awards for August 2019

The following are new and competing renewal awards made to faculty in the Department of Pediatrics through the month of August 2019. Please extend your congratulations to these individuals.

Mara L. Becker (Rheumatology) received an award from Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance, Inc. in the amount of $71,361 for a research study entitled “CARRA JIA Chair Support.” The project period is 07/01/2019 – 06/30/2022.

Gregory E. Crawford (Medical Genetics) received an award from Yale University in the amount of $421,897 for a research study entitled “Chromatin Regulation during Brain Development and in ASD.” The project period is 07/01/2019 – 06/30/2023.

Mai K. ElMallah (Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine) received an award from Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the amount of $118,941 for a research project entitled “Implementation of Outpatient Clinical Pharmacy Services: Award for a Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Technician.” The project period is 04/01/2019 – 03/31/2022.

Mai K. ElMallah (Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine) received an award from Sarepta Therapeutics, Inc. in the amount of $130,000 for a research project entitled “Respiratory Characterization of DMD Mouse Models.” The project period is 08/21/2019 – 08/20/2020.

Genevieve G. Fouda (Infectious Diseases) received an award from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in the amount of $19,363 for a research study entitled “Antibody Responses in Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Cohort.”  The project period is 08/01/2019 – 07/31/2020.

Priya S. Kishnani (Medical Genetics) received an award from Shire Human Genetics Therapies in the amount of $292,164 for a research study entitled “Medical Education and Awareness Program for Future Health Care Providers Treating Patients with Rare Genetic and Metabolic Diseases.” The project period is 06/25/2019 – 07/31/2021.

Laura E. Schanberg (Rheumatology) received an award from the University of Utah in the amount of $59,280 for a research study entitled ”Improving Pediatric Lupus Care and Outcomes Through The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) Lupus Registry.” The project period is 09/30/2019 – 09/29/2022.  

Edward C. Smith (Neurology) received an award from Biogen Inc. in the amount of $448,172 for a research study entitled “An Open-Label Extension Study for Patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy who Previously Participated in Investigation Studies of ISIS 396443.” The project period is 08/13/2019 – 12/31/2024.

Xiaoping Zhong (Allergy and Immunology) received an award from National Institutes of Health in the amount of $402,500 for a research study entitled “Role of mTOR in Thymic Epithelial Cells in Regulating Age-Associated Thymic Involution and Function.” The project period is 09/01/2019 – 08/31/2020.
