Become a Children's Health & Discovery Initiative (CHDI) affiliate member

The Children's Health & Discovery Initiative (CHDI) would like to formally invite all investigators who are conducting research into the early life origins of health and disease or who anticipates conducting such research in the near future to become a CHDI affiliate member.

CHDI affiliate faculty are Duke University faculty who wish to collaborate with CHDI on various activities. Projects may be initiated by either the affiliate faculty member or the CHDI scientific leadership.

If you would like to become an affiliate member, please email us ( the following items:

  • Name and affiliation for listing on the CHDI website
  • A link to your Duke Scholars profile and/or research group website
  • A brief (<1 page) statement describing ongoing or planned research that focuses on the early life origins of health and disease


  • Duke faculty appointment
  • Demonstrated interest in child health and/or early life origins of disease
  • Participation in a CHDI research initiative


  • Consultations with the CHDI data science and analytics team
  • Access to a CHDI project manager
  • Invitation to CHDI-sponsored events
  • Apply to CHDI RFAs
  • Priority access to data resources, including Duke electronic health
  • Assistance in writing IRB applications for projects utilizing CHDI data resources
  • Collaborator identification across Duke University
  • Microgrants to support initiation of pilot projects


  • Contribute actively and positively to the CHDI mission
  • Participation in CHDI-sponsored research projects
  • Assistance in reviewing CHDI RFP submissions
  • Attend and participate in CHDI seminars and brainstorming sessions (at least 2 per year)
  • Acknowledge CHDI on publications and dealings with the press, scientific community, and the public for CHDI-supported projects
  • Informally promote CHDI and its activities within Duke and beyond
