Reflections on the Duke program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I prioritized medium-sized and academic programs that balanced excellent primary care experience with advanced subspecialty care. I wanted to be deeply challenged in my residency training with exposure to a wide-range of care acuity and also wanted to have the support and resources available to lean on when I needed them. It was also very important for me to know that residents enjoyed being around one another and had relationships with faculty both inside and outside of the hospital. When I visited Duke, it was evident that all of these characterized our program.
What are you involved in at Duke that particularly interests you (i.e. committees, research, interest groups, QI, etc)?
I am a Duke Pediatric Research Scholar, which is a program dedicated to training physician-scientists and preparing them for successful careers in academic medicine.
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
Our program leadership and faculty are supportive, kind, brilliant, passionate, and dedicated clinicians who love teaching and are true advocates for our education and our patients. The breadth of pathology and subspecialty exposure, combined with the advanced care capabilities of our facilities, offer an abundance of learning opportunities. Protected educational time is encouraged and regarded as an integral part of our culture.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Explore NC with my partner and friends. Hang with my pups (Franz and Ori). Get active and outside (swim, run, hike, and bike)! Read. Watch soccer (Liverpool) and basketball (New York Knicks).
