Reflections on the Duke program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted to be a part of an institution that treated residents well and that valued them for their efforts to make the hospital run smoothly. I looked for a program that valued resident wellness and resident education.
About Duke University and Durham
What’s best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Durham is a quickly growing city that has a multitude of historic districts, acclaimed restaurants, scenic parks and everything in between. I love the people and the laidback culture of the area.
What advice would you give about moving to Durham?
My biggest advice would be to look broadly within a 10-15 minute driving radius from the hospital and, if you are able, to make a visit to the area to evaluate the different living options. There are several modern apartment complexes conveniently within walking distance to the hospital, although some of them are fairly expensive for what they offer. There are also many neighborhoods made up of town homes/duplexes that are reasonably priced within 10-20 minutes of work. ForRent.com has great listings in the surrounding area.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy playing several different types of intruments, including guitar and piano. I like to exercise (whenever I can). I enjoy the weekends when I am able to go to church and visit with friends. My all time favorite thing, however, is just being able to relax and spend time with my wife, Alie.
