Reflections on the Duke program

What are you involved in at Duke that particularly interests you (i.e. committees, research, interest groups, QI, etc)?
Duke has a robust QI initiative that is especially strong in the pediatrics department. If you're interested in quality or patient safety, this is an excellent program! Duke will also fund some international rotations while you're in residency.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?
I know you'll hear it everywhere, but the people here are great. During the orientation week of residency, my car got totaled. At every level, everyone was incredibly supportive. My co-interns got me an Uber gift card, the chiefs gave me rides, and the department staff have gone out of their way to make sure I was able to successfully navigate the first few months of residency while learning a lot about "adulting." I could not have asked for a more supportive environment during a very stressful time!

About Duke and Durham

What's best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
The Triangle is cool because it's a vibrant area with a lot of young professionals, but the cost of living is great! North Carolina has it's own brand of hospitality, and it's cool that the mountains or the beach are both potential weekend trips.

Personal interests

What do you like to do outside of work?
Traveling, camping, trivia nights, cooking, sampling the local cuisine and craft beer scene, and binging shows on Netflix and Hulu.

What is something interesting/surprising about you?
I got stung by a scorpion when I studied abroad in Belize. (No, I didn't get pancreatitis!)
