Reflections on the Duke program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted a medium-sized program that would offer the patient volume and rigor in order to help me pursue my career goals. I've found all of that at Duke. The program is just the right size; it is small enough to know everyone but also large enough to evenly spread the workload. In my short time here, I've cared for a large number of patients and had the opportunity to learn from those patients, adding to my wealth of knowledge. I have no doubt I'll be prepared for whatever the future holds.
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
There are many things to like about Duke, but in my opinion, the greatest strength is the dedication to diversity. There is commitment to recruiting and retaining not only residents from populations underrepresented in medicine but also faculty and staff. As residents, we have the opportunity to be involved in these efforts through the Diversity and Inclusion Residency Task Force. This dedication to creating healthcare teams that reflect the diversity of our community as well as the chance to have my voice heard are probably what excite me most about being able to train at Duke.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I love baking. My go-to recipe is for snickerdoodles, but I'm currently working on perfecting my oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe. I also enjoy running (to make up for all the baking!), college football, and good music.
