Internal Funding Opportunities

The Department of Pediatrics offers two sources of internal funding, the Anna's Angels Foundation and the Children's Miracle Network Research Fund. The purpose of these funds is to provide support for pilot projects that have the potential for development into larger projects and eventual extramural support.

Anna's Angels Foundation

Anna Merrills, a child with Down Syndrome, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at the age of 16 months. Her parents became interested in providing money to support innovative research projects in Down Syndrome and especially the predisposition to leukemia these children have. The creators of this fund are most interested in supporting pilot projects of the “high-risk, high-gain” type. Once a year grants are made in an amount between $5000 to a maximum of $10,000 for seed funding to anyone in the Duke community, including the Medical Center, Arts and Sciences, and affiliated hospitals. Children's Miracle Network (CMN)

Children's Miracle Network is the alliance of premier children's hospitals in North America. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America. Since 1983, these non-profit hospitals have provided the finest care, research and community outreach to help millions of children with diseases and injuries of every kind, raising more than $2.1 billion. Each year, Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center participates in the Children's Miracle Network Telethon and sets aside a portion of the net proceeds from this event for the CMN Research Fund. Requests for applications are typically posted on the Department of Pediatrics web site in December.
