Pediatric Clinical Research Program

The Duke Pediatric Clinical Research Program (PCRP) is a centralized clinical research coordinating program within Duke Children’s. PCRP is designed to promote collaborative research for a variety of illness and conditions that affect infants, children, and adolescents. The PCRP contributes the following to the Duke Children’s research efforts:

  • helps match patients to ongoing clinical research trials at Duke University Medical Center
  • works with sponsors to conduct clinical trials
  • helps potential investigators develop research interests
  • assists with funding of research studies.
  • provides assistants with all aspects of study management
  • provides investigator training and education
The PCRP has helped researchers at Duke Children’s obtain funding for studies from a variety of sources, including the National Institutes of Health, private foundations, and industrial sponsors such as Abbott, Alza, Amgen, Aventis, Bayer Bristol-Myers Squibb, Fujisawa, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Novartis, Pharmacia, Purdue, and the R W Johnson Foundation.

The PCRP works with all members of the Duke Children’s staff on a variety of projects. Several different specialty team members may collaborate on a specific research project, enabling pooling of resources to maximize patient recruitment and to use resources efficiently.

Examples of current research initiatives involving the PCRP include: post-operative pain control, nutritional studies, and new therapies for patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, improved treatment for infectious diseases and hypertension as well as lupus, asthma, obesity, atopic dermatitis, kidney diseases and cancer. Other studies include observational registries and post-marketing outcome studies. For more information about the PCRP and its research programs, please contact:
