Overview of the Office of Pediatric Education

The vision of the Office of Pediatric Education is to advance the care of infants, children and adolescents by optimizing the education of medical students, residents, and fellows in the pediatric disciplines. Our office also facilitates faculty development, overseeing a mentoring program, and facilitating self-education. We aspire to provide the educational platform that enables medical professionals to be lifelong learners, excellent clinicians, and superb teachers. Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns, either by emailing us or by calling 919-668-4836.

The Office of Pediatric Education is responsible for all educational programs in the Department.  This structure facilitates curriculum development, monitoring of educational program effectiveness, and collaboration with other educational opportunities, both within and outside the Department of Pediatrics.  In addition, the office is a strong advocate for students, residents, and fellows, and ensures that these learners are provided relevant opportunities to meet their learning objectives.

The office coordinates a core curriculum for all departmental fellows that addresses ethics, grant writing, biostatistics, and a variety of topics related to the conduct of research.  The office is also responsible for organzing Pediatric Grand Rounds presentations--a forum that includes presentations on a wide spectrum of major pediatric issues by our faculty and internationally-recognized experts.  The office works closely with the Duke University School of Medicine, the Duke Institutional Committee on Graduate Medical Education, the American Board of Pediatrics, various Residency Review Committees, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and appropriate residency review committees to ensure that departmental curricula meet the appropriate educational objectives.
